PRESS RELEASE- July 1, 2010
Jacob Wetterling Resource Center
Regarding Current Investigation in St. Joseph, Minnesota
At the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, we have not received any contact from law enforcement regarding the current investigation in St. Joseph, Minnesota. We have no comment regarding why the investigation is being pursued, if it is connected to Jacob, or why the investigation is being looked into at this time.
However, the continued interest in Jacob’s story proves the resiliency of hope for all of those who feel connected to his story and to his family. As an agency we continue to remain hopeful for the Wetterling family that Jacob will be found and the family will finally have answers after so many years of waiting.
When a child is abducted, communities must continue to pull together as they have in Jacob’s case. When our organization was first founded by Patty and Jerry Wetterling in 1989 after the abduction of Jacob, we focused on our mission to educate children, families and communities so that children can grow up safe and maximize their full potential.
While cases like Jacob’s are not common, they do happen. We continue striving to provide assistance for safer communities. This includes victim assistance programming for families searching for a missing child. It also includes prevention education and community outreach to help promote safe and healthy communities.
The Jacob Wetterling Resource Center merged with the National Child Protection Training Center in February 2010. The merger is an effort to combine the groups’ resources and strengthen common efforts to ensure every child grows up in a healthy, safe world free from abuse, exploitation and abduction.
