Are you a Chief, Sheriff, or Law Enforcement Officer preparing to host a Community Notification Meeting?

The Jacob Wetterling Resource Center Toolkit with video and printable handouts is now available.

History
Megan’s Law, an amendment to The Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act (Jacob’s Law), requires that every state enact a community notification process that meets federal standards. Community notification denies sex offenders the secrecy that could be used to prey on unknowing victims and further provides an opportunity for local law enforcement to share information with the community so that citizens can make well informed decisions with regard to their safety and welfare. With this new knowledge, residents collectively have the ability to hold the offender accountable for their daily behavior, and in so doing, contribute to building a safer community.
